Visiting: Lyon, Pérouges, Annecy, Grenoble, Vienne & Annecy
Thursday 10 December: We meet at Malta International Airport at 07:00 for flight KM454, departing at 09:20 and arriving in Lyon at 11:40. Transfer to the centre of Lyon and check-in at the centrally located Hotel Séminaire Campanile 3 Stars.
Friday 11 December: Breakfast followed by a city tour to discover the beauty of Lyon, a city built around the two great rivers, the Rhône and the Saône. We visit the medieval Lyon Cathedral, famous for its astronomical clock and 14th-century stained-glass windows, Place Bellecour, the magnificent Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, Place des Terreaux, the Bartholdi Fountain, and the impressive Hôtel de Ville. Later, we visit one of the city's Christmas Markets and continue enjoying this beautiful city.
Saturday 12 December: Breakfast and departure to discover the picturesque beauty of the French Alps. Our first stop is the medieval village of Pérouges, one of the most charming and well-preserved villages in France. We then continue to the beautiful lakeside town of Annecy. During our tour, we admire the beauty and architecture of the Old Town, including:Palais de l’Île,St. Pierre Cathedral, St. Francis Church, Annecy Castle. The picturesque canals that have earned Annecy the nickname “The Venice of the Alps” The festive Christmas lights and the famous Annecy Christmas Market add even more charm to this beautiful destination. Later, we return to Lyon.
Sunday 13 December: After breakfast, we travel into the majestic French Alps in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region to visit Grenoble. The area is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, fresh mountain air and spectacular alpine landscapes. Our tour begins in the historic centre where we visit Notre-Dame Cathedral. We continue through:Rue Sainte-Claire, Rue de la République, Place Grenette, The Parliament Buildings, Quai Stéphane Jay, offering beautiful views of the Isère River and Mont Rachais. Free time follows before we visit the Jardin de Ville, from where we take the famous Grenoble Bastille Cable Cars (extra), known locally as "The Bubbles". From the summit, we enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Grenoble, the surrounding mountains and the Isère River.There will also be time to visit Grenoble’s festive Christmas Markets.
Monday 14 December: After breakfast, we enjoy a wonderful day visiting two fascinating destinations: Vienne and Avignon. Our first stop is Vienne, a charming riverside town renowned for its impressive Roman monuments, historic cathedral and relaxed atmosphere. We then continue into the beautiful region of Provence and arrive in Avignon, where festive lights and seasonal markets enhance the charm of its medieval streets. There will be time to admire the magnificent Palais des Papes, explore the historic centre and enjoy a warm drink in one of the traditional cafés overlooking the city's historic squares. In the early evening, we continue to Marseille Airport for check-in and flight FR7796, departing at 22:25 and arriving back in Malta at approximately 00:10.
