HUNGARIAN CHRISTMAS MARKETS

Visiting: Budapest, Danube Bend, Szentendre, Visegrád, Puszta & Gödöllő Palace
Tuesday 15 December: We meet at Malta International Airport at 06:00 for check-in for flight FR2203, departing at 08:00 and arriving in Budapest at 10:15.Upon arrival, we transfer by coach to the city centre where we enjoy a city tour with a local guide. Among the highlights we will see are: Hungarian Parliament Building, Heroes’ Square, Hungarian State Opera House, Royal Palace, Citadella, Fisherman’s Bastion, offering spectacular panoramic views over the city. We then continue to the centrally located Mercure Hotel City Centre 4star for check-in. In the evening, those who wish may join the tour leader for a visit to the Christmas Market in Vörösmarty Square.

Wednesday 16 December: Breakfast. Today's excursion takes us through the beautiful towns along the Danube Bend, one of Hungary’s most scenic regions. Our first stop is Szentendre, a charming Baroque town situated approximately 20km from Budapest. We then continue to Visegrád, famous for its historic fortress and magnificent views over the Danube Valley. In the evening, those interested may join the tour leader to visit another beautiful Christmas Market located beside St. Stephen’s Basilica. Return to the hotel.

Thursday 17 December Breakfast followed by a free day. However, those who wish may join the tour leader to continue exploring this fascinating city, which has so much to offer. Alternatively, you may visit the famous Széchenyi Thermal Bath, the largest thermal bath complex in Budapest and one of the largest in Europe. Here you will find 3 outdoor pools and 15 indoor pools. In the afternoon, there will be an opportunity to enjoy a Danube River Cruise (extra). Those interested may also visit the West End Shopping Centre, home to approximately 400 shops, bars and restaurants. In the evening, we organise an optional Dinner & Folklore Show.

Friday 18 December: Today we enjoy a full-day excursion to Puszta, located in the western region of Hungary. Here we experience a spectacular horse show, demonstrating the incredible skills of traditional Hungarian horsemen. This unforgettable performance is one of Hungary’s most famous attractions. We also enjoy a ride in a traditional horse-drawn carriage followed by a typical Hungarian lunch with wine included at a local restaurant. During lunch, we will have the opportunity to listen to traditional Gypsy music.

Saturday 19 December: Breakfast and departure for the magnificent Royal Palace of Gödöllő, often referred to as the Versailles of Hungary (entrance fee extra). There will be ample time to explore the palace and its beautiful gardens before continuing to Budapest Airport for flight FR2277, departing at 17:05 and arriving back in Malta at 19:20.
