Berlin & Saxony Christmas Markets

Visiting: Berlin, Potsdam, Sanssouci Palace, Leipzig & Dresden

Saturday: We meet at Malta International Airport at 15.30 for flight KM376 departing at 17.55. We arrive in Berlin at 20.55 and proceed to our hotel: Group A – BW Plus Plaza Hotel 4 Star Group B – Hollywood Media Hotel 4 Star The hotels are located on Kurfürstendamm Boulevard in a wonderful atmosphere, with the entire avenue beautifully decorated and illuminated with Christmas lights.

Sunday: Discover Berlin with us, one of Europe’s most fascinating cities, where together with our local English-speaking guide we will learn about the history of a nation that for many years was divided between East and West. Among the highlights we will see: Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden, Reichstag, Museum Island, Berlin Opera, Berlin Wall Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie, Gendarmenmarkt, Großer Tiergarten, Victory Column, Berlin Cathedral, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and the Nikolai Quarter. Afterwards we return to the hotel and enjoy this vibrant area together with its Christmas Markets.

Monday: Excursion to Dresden, known as the Florence on the Elbe. This city is renowned for its impressive Baroque architecture and rich cultural heritage. A walk through the historic Altstadt, the Old Town, allows us to admire iconic landmarks such as the Frauenkirche, the magnificent Zwinger Palace with its remarkable art collections, and the Semper Opera House, considered one of Germany’s finest. Brühl’s Terrace, often referred to as the “Balcony of Europe”, offers panoramic views over the River Elbe and the city. On the opposite side of the river, in the Neustadt district, we discover a vibrant contrast of street art, independent cafés and boutiques. Naturally, the festive Christmas decorations and Christmas Markets add to the charm of this beautiful city.

Tuesday: After buffet breakfast we depart by coach for our excursion to Potsdam, the former residence of the Prussian rulers. Here we may visit the magnificent Sanssouci Palace (entrance fee extra). We also find an extensive park and will have sufficient time to enjoy its beautiful gardens. Afterwards we visit the centre of Potsdam, a large city with around 20 lakes and 20 rivers flowing through it. Free time will be available during the afternoon before returning to Berlin. In the evening we continue enjoying the festive atmosphere of the Christmas Markets.

Wednesday: Breakfast and departure for the city of Leipzig where we explore its close connection with the famous classical composer Johann Sebastian Bach. We travel by coach to Leipzig, an important commercial centre renowned for its impressive musical heritage and the Leipzig Christmas Market (Leipziger Weihnachtsmarkt), considered one of the oldest and largest Christmas Markets in Germany. Together with our local guide we admire this beautiful city where, amongst other attractions, we see the Market Square, home to the Old City Hall (Altes Rathaus), the Opera House and St Nicholas Church. Afterwards we enjoy free time during which you may visit the Museum of Fine Arts, Zum Arabischen Coffe Baum, one of the oldest café-restaurants in Europe, or simply stroll through the Christmas Market. Later we proceed to Berlin Airport for flight KM377 departing at 21.45 and arriving back in Malta at 00.40.
