Visiting: Montecatini, Siena, San Gimignano, Florence, Orvieto, Pisa, Rapallo, Santa Margherita Ligure & Portofino
Monday 28 December: We meet at Malta International Airport at 04:00 for the KM Malta Airlines flight to Rome, departing at 07:15 and arriving at 07:45. We travel by coach to Montecatini Terme, where accommodation will be at the centrally located Hotel Plaza 4 Stars. Orientation walk with the tour leader followed by dinner at the hotel.
Tuesday 29 December: A wonderful excursion takes us to Portofino in the beautiful region of Liguria. Our first stop is Santa Margherita Ligure, where together we explore the historic centre. We see the 17th-century Baroque Basilica, the castle and enjoy a stroll along the elegant promenade lined with cafés, restaurants and bars. We then take a boat (extra) to Portofino, one of the jewels of the Italian Riviera. Here we walk along the famous harbour, admire luxury yachts, charming boutiques and picturesque streets. Above the village we see Castello Brown and the Church of St. Martin. Free time is available and those who wish may walk up to the panoramic viewpoints. Later, we take another boat to Rapallo, enjoying a scenic 30-minute journey along the Ligurian coast. In Rapallo we admire the palm-lined promenade, colourful buildings surrounding the bay and the famous Rapallo Castle.
Wednesday 30 December: Together we discover the beauty of Florence, one of Italy’s most magnificent cities. Among the highlights we visit: Florence Cathedral (Duomo), Baptistery of St. John, Giotto’s Bell Tower, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria. Those interested may climb to the top of the Duomo for spectacular views over Florence. Free time for shopping and personal sightseeing.
Thursday 31 December: Breakfast and free time to enjoy Montecatini and its festive atmosphere. Later, those who wish may join the tour leader for a visit to Montecatini Alto (cable car extra). Situated on two hills, Montecatini Alto offers spectacular views and historic attractions including: Rocca di Castello Vecchio, Church of St. Peter, Campanaria Tower, Torre dell’Orologio, Baroque Carmelite Church. We enjoy time in the charming main square surrounded by traditional restaurants, cafés and wine bars before returning to the hotel. In the evening, we celebrate New Year’s Eve with a special dinner at the hotel including water, wine and champagne, accompanied by live music and entertainment.A wonderful evening to welcome the New Year.
Friday 01 January 2027 Happy New Year! After breakfast, we enjoy an interesting excursion to Pisa. Together with the tour leader we visit: The Leaning Tower of Pisa, Piazza dei Miracoli, Pisa Cathedral, The Baptistery, Campo Santo Free time for shopping and souvenirs. Later, we continue to Montecarlo, renowned for its excellent wines and olive oil production. Here we stop for an optional Tuscan Tasting Lunch, featuring regional wines, Tuscan cold cuts and local specialities (not included). Dinner at the hotel.
Saturday 02 January Join us as we discover the famous Tuscan towns of Siena and San Gimignano. We begin in Siena, where we visit: Siena Cathedral, Piazza del Campo, Palazzo Comunale We then continue to San Gimignano, a charming medieval hilltop town rich in culture and history. Here we see: The Duomo, Palazzo del Popolo, Town Hall.Free time before returning to Montecatini.
Sunday 03 January: After breakfast, we depart by coach for the beautiful hilltop town of Orvieto. Together with the tour leader, we enjoy a walking tour through this charming medieval city, discovering its picturesque narrow streets, main square, historic palaces, charming alleyways, and the magnificent Orvieto Cathedral, considered one of Italy’s finest Gothic masterpieces. Free time for lunch (extra) before continuing our journey to Fiumicino Airport for the KM Malta Airlines flight departing at 22:25 and arriving back in Malta at 00:55.
