We meet at Malta International Airport at 10:00 for KM Malta Airlines direct flight KM624 to Milan, departing at 12:25. We arrive at Linate Airport at 14:25 and travel by coach to Arona, an elegant town on the shores of Lake Maggiore. On arrival at the Hotel Concorde 3+*, we check into our rooms. The hotel is close to the lake and town centre, giving us the chance to enjoy Arona’s peaceful atmosphere. Dinner at the hotel.
After a buffet breakfast, we travel to Switzerland to visit Ascona and Lugano, before returning to Italy for an afternoon visit to Como. In Ascona, we walk through its picturesque streets and along the lakeside promenade. We then continue to Lugano, where our tour leader will show us the historic centre, Via Nassa and Piazza della Riforma. There will be free time to enjoy the promenade and visit the Christmas market. Our final stop is Como, where we see Piazza Cavour, Piazza Volta, the Old Town and the marble Gothic cathedral. There will also be time for a lakeside walk or a visit to the Christmas market. Dinner at the hotel.
After breakfast, we travel to Domodossola for a scenic journey on the Centovalli Railway (ticket at extra cost). The train passes through valleys, forests and across impressive bridges on its way to the Swiss town of Locarno, on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore. There will be free time to explore the town, its lakeside streets and shops. Those who wish may take the funicular to the Madonna del Sasso Sanctuary (ticket at extra cost), which offers views over the lake and surrounding mountains. We return to the hotel for dinner, followed by an evening walk with the tour leader.
Today we visit Vercelli, a historic town known for its architecture and rice production. We explore its Christmas decorated centre and have free time for a coffee or some shopping. We then continue to Novara to visit its Christmas market. Those who wish may join the tour leader to see the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Basilica of San Gaudenzio. Afterwards, we return to the hotel.
After breakfast, we travel to Mottarone, high above Lake Maggiore, to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding lakes and the Italian Alps. We then continue to Stresa, one of the most attractive towns on Lake Maggiore, known for its lakeside promenade, shops and elegant atmosphere. In the evening, we enjoy New Year’s Eve dinner with live music and dancing.
After a buffet breakfast, we have some free time. At approximately 10:30, we transfer by coach to Linate Airport for flight KM625, departing at 15:15 and arriving in Malta at 17:15.
