Day 01

We meet the tour leader at 04:15 at the airport for flight KM856 to Madrid, which departs at 07:00 and arrives at 10:00. Upon arrival, we head to the city of Aranjuez, located on the River Tajo. It was designed and developed in the 16th century by King Philip II, who gave it the appearance it has today. The importance of this beautiful city—filled with gardens, canals, and palaces—grew substantially in the 18th century under the Bourbon monarchy. It was also the official summer residence of the reigning monarchs. We will see the Royal Palace and the splendour of the Aranjuez Gardens. We also visit the historic centre where we see the churches of Sant Antonio as well as the Pavia quarter. We continue to Inhala Hotel Garden 4-star in Madrid. Room allocation.

Day 02

Breakfast and afterwards we will have a ‘Panoramic & Walking’ city tour around Madrid. During the tour, we will see, among other places, the Royal Palace—one of the finest in Europe—Plaza Mayor, the fountains of La Cibeles and Neptuno, Plaza de Colón, Puerta del Sol, Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, Europa Towers, Azcai, Plaza de Oriente, Gran Via, and the Gothic-style cathedral La Almudena. Free time afterwards.

Day 03

Buffet breakfast and a wonderful excursion to the beautiful mountainous area of Sierra de Guadarrama, with our first stop in the city of Segovia. This city was very important during Roman times and was once home to royalty. We see the aqueduct built by the Romans in the first century, 800 metres long and 30 metres high. We also see the cathedral located in Plaza Mayor and the medieval and famous Alcázar (entrance not included), originally built as a fortress. From here, we continue to the city of Ávila, the capital of the region with the same name, surrounded by walls fortified with 88 towers. Among other places, we visit the cathedral built in the 12th century, the Basilica of San Vicente, and the convent related to Saint Teresa. We return to Madrid. In the evening, an outing with the tour leader.

Day 04

Breakfast and free time for last-minute shopping. Afterwards we load the luggage and begin our journey to the city of Toledo, located on a hill in central Spain and considered a jewel-city of the country. It is known as the city of the three cultures because Christians, Jews, and Arabs lived together here for hundreds of years. They left a cultural heritage of churches, synagogues, palaces, mosques, and fortresses. Together with the tour leader, we visit the historic centre with its narrow, winding streets full of buildings of diverse architectural styles, giving the city its unique character. We also see the cathedral and El Greco’s works (entrance not included). There is an opportunity to take the Toledo Train Vision (extra), a trip of about 45 minutes. Free time for personal sightseeing. Transfer to Madrid Airport for flight KM587 departing at 21:30 and arriving back in Malta at 00:15.
