We meet at Malta International Airport at 12:00 for flight KM490, departing at 14:25 and arriving in Zurich at 16:50. Upon arrival, we transfer by coach to the French town of Mulhouse, nestled on a plain between the Vosges mountains and the Rhine River. This charming city, with a population of around 112,000, will be our base. Accommodation will be at the centrally located 3-star Hotel Bristol. Every year, Mulhouse hosts its festive Christmas Market in ‘Place de la Réunion’, open daily from 10:00 to 20:00. For guests opting for the Half Board supplement, dinner will be served each evening.
After enjoying our buffet breakfast, we embark on a truly captivating excursion to the elegant and historically significant city of Strasbourg. Together we explore key highlights such as Petite France, the Old Quarters, the Palais de l’Europe, the European Parliament, the Orangerie, and the magnificent Cathedral. Later, we visit Strasbourg’s renowned Christmas Market – the oldest in Europe, dating back to 1570, and one of the largest. Free time will be available to soak in the magical atmosphere, and we’ll also have the chance to admire the enchanting light displays.
Today’s excursion takes us to two of Alsace’s gems: Riquewihr and Colmar. We begin with a visit to the picturesque village of Riquewihr, famed for its natural beauty and medieval charm. After sightseeing, we continue to Colmar – a town renowned for its Alsace wine and fairy-tale architecture. During our tour, we admire the historic centre, quaint half-timbered houses, and the scenic canal district known as ‘Little Venice’. We also visit the house of Bartholdi, designer of the Statue of Liberty. Colmar is often described as one of the prettiest small towns in Europe, and its Christmas Market, adorned with stunning decorations and festive lights, is a true highlight.
After breakfast, enjoy a full free day to experience the festive atmosphere of Mulhouse. Stroll through the Christmas Market or shop in the pedestrian zone, where popular stores like C&A and Primark can be found. Those interested may visit the fascinating Automobile Museum (entrance fee not included). Alternatively, for those seeking adventure, we offer an optional full-day trip to Europa Park – one of Europe’s most exciting theme parks.
Today we cross into Germany to visit Freiburg, capital of the Black Forest region. In the city’s historic centre, dating back to various periods, we’ll admire the town’s iconic landmark – the majestic Minster Cathedral, a masterpiece of medieval architecture. Afterwards, enjoy free time for shopping along the lively main street and a visit to the enchanting Christmas Market. Here you’ll find traditional Black Forest crafts such as straw shoes, wooden toys, and handmade candles – with live demonstrations at the Candle Workshop, a key attraction. We’ll also enjoy the magical ambiance of Freiburg illuminated in festive lights.
We depart by coach to Neuhausen to witness one of Europe’s most spectacular natural wonders – the Rhine Falls. We pause to take in the breathtaking scenery before continuing on to Zurich Airport. Check-in for flight KM491, departing at 17:40, and arrive back in Malta at 20:00, bringing with us fond memories of a wonderful holiday.
